The Reverend Homer Wendell Trotter, 87, of Hazel Green, Alabama, died June 29, 2022. Wendell was an honorably retired member of Columbia Presbytery which he served as Stated Clerk from September 22, 2002 to April 22, 2012. He had previously served as Stated Clerk of Chattanooga, Murfreesboro, and Robert Donnell Presbyteries as well as Stated Clerk of Alabama-Florida-Mississippi Synod. Wendell served in Knoxville, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Chattanooga, Nashville, Birmingham, Robert Donnell, and Columbia Presbyteries.

Born March 3, 1935, to Dott W. Trotter and Jessie McClure Trotter in Maryville, Tennessee, Wendell grew up and was educated in the Eagleton Village area of Maryville. He was baptized by the Reverend Frank Harmon and joined the Maryville Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1949. Wendell attended Eagleton Village Elementary School, Porter Junior High, and Everett High School, graduating in 1953. He married Billie Imogene Haggard on May 15, 1953, and they had two children, Sonja Madora and Jonathan Neal..

Wendell came under the care of Knoxville Presbytery in 1953. He was licensed by Clarksville Presbytery while he attended Bethel College (now Bethel University) in McKenzie, Tennessee, from 1958 to 1962. Wendell was ordained by Clarksville Presbytery on March 27, 1962. The Reverend George Pope preached his ordination sermon and the Reverend Doctors Colvin Baird and Andrew D. Rudolph delivered the charge.

Over the course of his ministry, Wendell served St. John Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Waverly, Tennessee), Locust Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Clarksville, Tennessee), Meridian Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Greenfield, Tennessee), Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Clarksville, Tennessee), First Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Tullahoma, Tennessee), Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church (McMinnville, Tennessee), Bartow Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Rydal, Georgia), New Providence Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Clarksville, Tennessee), New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Birmingham, Alabama), First Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Huntsville, Alabama), and First Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Columbia, Tennessee).
