The Reverend Tim Smith is widely known as “the voice of the Tigers,” in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Smith, pastor of the Fayetteville, Tennessee, Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Columbia Presbytery, has been a part of Fayetteville High School ever since the institution was initiated ten years ago.
Rujena Dotson, Supervisor of Fayetteville City Schools, nominated Tim for the Tennessee School Board Association School Volunteer Recognition Award said, “from announcing sporting events to being the voice that parents hear when they receive an ‘all call’ from the system, he is truly ‘The Voice of the Tigers.’
Fayetteville High School has only existed since 2011. A grade was added to the school each year achieving a graduating class after three years. Their sports teams often played against the JV teams of other schools until 2014. Many away games didn’t have many spectators but the football players always knew if only three people were in the stands, Tim Smith would be one of them.
“He was the person who knew every kid’s name,” Dotson said. He would ask if he could do anything for specific students or families, and was more than willing meet the needs communicated. “As a minister and pillar of the community, he has served as a constant role model and extended family member for students that have now grown into adulthood and are beginning to have families of their own. The Fayetteville City School System has been incredibly blessed to have Tim Smith on our team from the beginning. He is an exceptional individual and ideal choice for this recognition program.”
