The Reverend Dr. Robert Aaron Craig, 86, died October October 24th, 2020, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, from COVID-19.
Dr. Craig was born on May 7th 1934, to John Conway Craig and Ara Jewel Crawford in Lubbock, TX. They lived in a 1 bedroom home with his siblings Margie, John and Jim. He married Dr. Virginia R. Craig on December 28th, 1954. He graduated from Cumberland Seminary in 1956 and received his Doctorate in Education in 1969. He felt that his best contribution to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church was during his work in the board of stewardship. The time he spent as Dean of faculty at Christian College in Columbia, MO, was described as one of his favorite jobs in Education.
Dr. Craig lived in Texas, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Spain. As an avid traveler, he continued traveling to Spain into his 80s. Learning can be described as his passion. He learned Greek to read the new testament, the Spanish language to communicate in Spain, steel guitar, flamenco guitar, and researched history to make his visits to a museum come alive. Through his love of storytelling he has left gifts for his family of short stories (some more embellished than others). Some stories were for the younger crowd to entertain his young daughter or granddaughter like, The Witch From Planet Peanut Butter. Other stories were for all generations and paid homage to memories of his childhood like, Grandaddy was a Gravedigger. Regardless of audience, Dr. Craig loved to make people laugh and dedicated himself to refining his skills of the pun until it was almost ninja-like. Time flies when you are having flan.
Dr. Craig is survived by his favorite daughter Cynthia C. Curtis Bates; favorite grand-daughter, Virginia J. Curtis; and favorite son-in-law William JL. Bates; and brother Jim A. Craig. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Virginia R. Craig in 2008 sister Margie and brother John.
