The Reverend Richard Alan Morgan, Jr., 54, of Winchester, Tennessee, died November 6, 2022. He loved music and he loved to sing. Richard had been pastor of Goshen Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Murfreesboro Presbytery) since 2014. Born May 31, 1968, in Decatur, Alabama, Richard went to Scottsboro High School from which he graduated in 1986. He attended Northeast Alabama State Junior College an Associates Degree in Engineering in 1988. In 1990, he earned an education degree from Athens State College.
He previously served as Associate Minister to the Young at Cookeville Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Murfreesboro Presbytery), as campus minister for the Presbyterian Student Association of Tennessee Tech University, and as a youth pastor in Tullahoma, Tennessee, and for ten years in Florence, Alabama.
In 2007, Hope Presbytery received Richard as a candidate for the ministry. He was licensed to preach in 2009. Richard graduated from Memphis Theological Seminary in May 2011, and was ordained in August.
Richard dearly loved working with youth and camping ministry in particular. For more than 20 years, he was part of GraceCONVO. Denominationally, he served on the Unified Committee on Theology and Social Concerns.
Heather Thompson married Richard in 1987. Rebecca Ashley, Richard Ethan, Sarah LeighAnn, and Karolyn Ivy are their children. LeighAnn and Ethan attended Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee. LeighAnn is a candidate for the ministry in Murfreesboro Presbytery. Both LeighAnn and Ethan served as youth advisory members on the Ministry Council of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
