The Reverend Oscar Lee Nichols, 93, North Central Presbytery, died October 14, 2021. He was born May 17, 1928, in Trilla, Illinois. At seventeen he felt the call to ministry while at church camp. He attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, for two years and was ordained on August 30, 1951 by Foster Presbytery.
Oscar Lee’s first pastorate was the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Howard, Indiana (Indiana Presbytery). He next served pare-time pastorates for Foster Presbytery at Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Martinsville, Illinois, and Pleasant Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Annapolis, Illinois. He also variously served Kimlin Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Casey, Illinois (Foster Presbytery), Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Simpson, Illinois (Illinois Presbytery), and Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Anna, Illinois (Illinois Presbytery). Oscar Lee was the Stated Clerk of Illinois Synod from 1953 to 1965.
In 1965, Oscar Lee was called to the Richard City Cumberland Presbyterian Church in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, in Chattanooga Presbytery. He served there until 1976, when he was called to Springfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Alabama (McGready Presbytery) and served there until 1978. From 1978 to 1983, Oscar Lee served Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Falkner, Mississippi (Madison Presbytery) and, from 1983 to 1987, Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee (Columbia Presbytery). He returned to Richard City (now in Tennessee-Georgia Presbytery) and served a second time from 1987 to 1995.
Oscar Lee retired and moved back to Trilla in 1995. He served Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church (North Central Presbytery) shortly before completely retiring from the pulpit. In retirement, he attended the Good Prospect Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Trilla.
