Meeting on March 4, 2023, Cornerstone Presbytery (formerly part of West Tennessee Presbytery), meeting at ACTS Korean Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Memphis, Tennessee, endorsed the Reverend Mitch Boulton as a candidate for moderator of the 192nd General Assembly which will meet in Denton, Texas, from June 18-23, 2023.
A biography of Rev. Boulton:
Mitch Boulton has been pastor of Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Savannah, Tennessee, since January 1, 2017. Originally from Kevil, Kentucky, he entered the ministry in 2002 after a 19-year career in land surveying. He came under the care of Covenant Presbytery, attended Paducah Community College, and then began to attend Bethel College (now Bethel University) in January 2005. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education, attended Memphis Theological Seminary, and earned a Master of Divinity. He is now attending Knox Theological Seminary in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, working on a Doctor of Ministry in Exegesis Theology. He will begin to write his final project in 2024.
Before his current pastorate, Mitch was at New Ebenezer and Antioch Union in Troy, Tennessee, for six years, Milan CP in Milan, Tennessee, for four years, Sturgis CP for two years, and Pleasant Valley CP for three years, both in Kentucky. His home church is Bethel CP in Kevil, Kentucky.
In 2007, Mitch transferred to West Tennessee Presbytery, where he was ordained on June 10, 2012. While in WTP, he served on the Board of Christian Education, Board of New Church Development, and the Board of Trustees for Camp Clark Williamson. He directed multiple camps and served in camps for the presbyteries in which he has served. For Cornerstone Presbytery, he serves on the Committee of Probation Care and is the chair of the Board of Trustees for Camp Clark Williamson.
On the denominational level, Mitch serves as co-chair of the Joint Committee on Theology and Social Concerns and has done so since 2018. He and the other committee members have been tasked with some of the church’s most important work over the last five years.
When Mitch arrived at Olivet, he developed a church statement of “Therefore Go” because he believed the church is to go and evangelize to the lost and strengthen the saved. The church is to go into all the communities and the whole world, not just to the parts where we want to go, but to the places which make people uncomfortable.
Mitch has been married to Ronda, for 32 years. They have one daughter, Taylor, who is married to Danny Allmon. They have two precious girls, Kaylee Ann and Raelynn Mae.
Mitch has also coached high school football in Kentucky and Tennessee for over 30 years. He enjoys all football but is fanatical about the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoys working in the yard, hiking, and watching movies with his wife.
Mitch attributes his faith in Jesus Christ to his parents first. The Reverend Vernon Murphy and the Reverend Wayne Parks were two ministers who greatly impacted his early life. Later, the Reverend Paul Tucker and the Reverend David LeNeave recognized the call to ministry in his life and encouraged him to surrender. Mitch credits the Reverend David Lancaster at Bethel for helping a poor student learn about the academic world.
Mitch was humbled when his session asked Cornerstone Presbytery to endorse him for Moderator of the 192nd General Assembly. When asked to serve, Mitch always steps up with humility and grace.
