The Reverend Michael Eugene Duke, 76, of Dickson, Tennessee, died September 28, 2021. Michael was a member without charge of Nashville Presbytery.
Michael responded to a call for candidates issued on the floor of Mayfield Presbytery meeting at the Wingo, Kentucky, Cumberland Presbyterian Church, October 12, 1968. At the time he was serving as director of Christian education for Margaret Hank Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Paducah, Kentucky. Soon after, he enrolled in Memphis Theological Seminary. Michael supplied Mountain View Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) in Mountain View, Missouri, for three years while in seminary. He was licensed April 7, 1973, when Mayfield Presbytery met at Milburn Chapel in Paducah. Michael was then preaching at Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, south of Bell City, Kentucky. The Reverend Frank Ward officiated.
In the fall of 1973, Mayfield Presbytery met at Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church and, on October 13, 1973, ordained Michael. The Reverend Ray Horton preached his ordination sermon. The Reverend A.D. Rudolph posed the ordination questions and the Reverend James Crawford delivered the charge.
Over the course of his ministry, Michael pastored Leitchfield, Kentucky, Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Leitchfield Presbytery); Mt. Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Nashville Presbytery) near Charlotte, Tennessee; Locust Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Nashville Presbytery) near Palmyra, Tennessee; Mariah Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Nashville Presbytery) near Waverly, Tennessee; and West Side Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Nashville Presbytery) in Nashville, Tennessee. Michael also served an interim as pastor of Dickson, Tennessee, Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Nashville Presbytery).
