Rev. Kenneth Paul Phillips
The Reverend Kenneth Paul Phillips, 81, of Lenoir City, Tennessee, and pastor of Heartland Cumberland Presbyterian Church, died August 16, 2022. He was born June 28, 1941, to William Ed Phillips and Thelma Phillips. Ken graduated from Lenoir City High School in 1959, married Marjorie Sue Lee in 1963, and spent the next fifteen years working and raising a family. A member of the Presbytery of East Tennessee, Ken answered the call to ministry at the age of 37 and began studies at Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee, and Memphis Theological Seminary to complete requirements for his ordination into the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in November 1986.
He pastored the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Oliver Springs, Tennessee (Presbytery of East Tennessee); Mount Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Coalfield, Tennessee (Presbytery of East Tennessee); Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Quitman, Louisiana (Trinity Presbytery); Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Henderson, Tennessee (West Tennessee Presbytery); Mount Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, Tennessee (Nashville Presbytery); and First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Humboldt, Tennessee (West Tennessee Presbytery). For the last 26 years, Ken has pastored Heartland Worship Center in Lenoir City, Tennessee (Presbytery of East Tennessee). He preached for the last time on August 7, 2022, nine days before his death.
