Having served the Cumberland Presbyterian denomination for 36 years, Rev. Dr. Lynndon “Lynn” Thomas has announced his resignation as Director of Global Missions position effective July 1, 2023. Lynn has served in this position since 2011. Prior to that, he served as Director of Cross-Cultural Ministry (USA) and as a missionary to Colombia. Lynn has accepted the position of Director of Program Development for the OptIN program that is based out of the Scottsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and which is sponsored by the Lilly Foundation. OptIN works with several CP churches in developing an innovative approach to Christian formation. “I look forward to the challenge of OptIN expansion, nationally and globally. I leave my employment with the CP Church with gratitude for its decades of support for my family and me. I was blessed and inspired by those with whom I worked. My family (wife and children) would agree that their father/husband’s job enriched their lives. From our perspective, what I did was no hardship or sacrifice for us as a family, it was an amazing adventure and blessing.”
The Ministry Council expresses its heartfelt appreciation to Lynn and his wife Nona for the years of servant leadership they provided and extends our blessings to them. We are thankful for the many, many ways Lynn has expanded the denomination’s missions efforts for nearly four decades. Please be in prayer for the Missions Ministry Team during this time of transition.
In keeping with policy, the MC will review the job description, make any necessary revisions, form an interview panel, and then post the position opening. It is hoped that the Director of Global Missions position will be filled by early summer.
