The Reverend Donald McConnell, 89, died November 25, 2021, in Farragut, Tennessee. He was an honorable retired member of the Presbytery of East Tennessee. Donald was born February 5, 1932, and grew up in the Powell community. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two years during the Korean War. Don graduated from Bethel College (now Bethel University) and the Cumberland Presbyterian Seminary, both in McKenzie, Tennessee. Ordained in 1959, he was an Army chaplain from 1966-1984 and served in the Vietnam War as well as on military bases in Korea, Georgia, South Carolina, New York, Louisiana, Virginia, and Hawaii. He received a Bronze Star, a Meritorious Service Medal, and an Army Commendation Medal. He retired a lieutenant colonel. Donald then served Cumberland Presbyterian churches in Glasgow, Kentucky, and Jackson and Lenoir City, Tennessee.
