Retired US Army Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel Billy F. Ivey, 87, (Presbytery of East Tennessee) died February 4, 2020.
Billy was an ordained minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was born in Farragut, Tennessee, to Lloyd and Pearl Ivey. He graduated from Farragut High School in 1950, and the University of Tennessee in 1954, with a Bachelor of Science degree in soil science and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in United States Army Reserve. He served on active duty for two years as an Infantry Officer. Leaving active duty, he entered and graduated from the Cumberland Presbyterian Theological Seminary, McKenzie, Tennessee, now known as Memphis Theological Seminary. Bill served as the Christian Education director at First Christian Church, Union City, Tennessee, while in seminary.
He served in various capacities in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and then entered active duty in the US Army as a Chaplain where he served eighteen years and retired with twenty-three years total service.
After retirement, Billy continued to serve the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He also taught Sunday school at Concord United Methodist Church and volunteered at the Volunteer Ministry Center, Knoxville, Tennessee, for many years.
