Red River Presbytery met on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford, Texas, with Reverend Jeff Gehle (Pathway Church, Burleson, Texas) as Moderator with 85 delegates participating. Reverend Dave Tucker served as Pastor Host and Worship Leader and presented a message from Acts 2 about the how the Holy Spirit is moving in and among us, sharing stories of transformation in member congregations.
The Spring Meeting was an inspiring meeting of celebrating God’s activity in the Presbytery. Hearing from candidates for ordination tell their faith stories of transformation and of surrender to the call to ministry was moving:
- Three probationers were approved for ordination and installation in active ministry roles: Kevin Bulgarelli (Pathway Church, Burleson, Texas), Cheyanne Davis (Pathway Church, Burleson, Texas), Bowman Vowell (Clinton Church, Clinton, Oklahoma).
- Toby Davis was received from Arkansas Presbyterian and his pastoral relationship with Stonegate Church (Edmond, Oklahoma) approved.
- Amy Duggins (Shiloh Church, Ovilla, Texas), Fitz Mombeleur (Lake Highlands Church, Dallas, Texas), Leo Vaughns, Jr. (St. Mark Church, Ft. Worth, Texas) were received as candidates for ordination.
Rev. Tom Condon received a Legacy of Ministry Award for 69 years of ordained ministry and military chaplaincy.
Rev. Mario “Bud” Ruggia was dismissed to be received by the Cimarron Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church USA. Bud, though retired at 81 years old and living outside the bounds of the Presbytery, is actively serving as pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Alva, Oklahoma.
Rev. Judy Madden was endorsed by the Presbytery for nomination as Moderator of the 192nd General Assembly to meet in June 2023 in Denton, Texas.
The Presbytery acted to release dedicated funds to support two churches positioning for or responding to increased reach, influence, and impact: Stonegate Church (Edmond, Oklahoma) and Marlow Church (Marlow, Oklahoma). Additionally, the Executive Committee was directed to develop a strategic plan for presentation at the Fall meeting designed to expand the Church in metro areas and to strengthen existing congregations.
Jodi Rush, Coordinator of Children and Family Ministries for the Discipleship Ministry Team, shared the work of the Ministry Council with special video presentation about the Cumberland Presbyterian Youth Conference (CPYC) with open enrollment for the Summer 2023. Jodi also conducted a workshop, Reviving Sunday School, on Friday night for member churches.
Rev. Alan Butler, Benefits Coordinator for the Board of Stewardship, Foundation, and Benefits, spoke on behalf of the Board. And Rev. Duawn Mearns, pastor of Covenant Church (Ada, Oklahoma) spoke on behalf of Memphis Theological Seminary.
The presbytery adjourned to meet for its regular meeting on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Stonegate Church in Edmond, Oklahoma.
