Cumberland Presbyterian: October 17, 1961
Bethel College has enrolled more full time students and also more Cumberland Presbyterian students in its fall session than any time in the past. Although the total enrollment is not as high as expected, 540 students have enrolled, which is slightly above the enrollment of 1960.
This is the 119th year for Bethel. It has enrolled 182 Cumberland Presbyterian students. There are 111 freshmen attending this session.
In the student body there are 67 Cumberland Presbyterian students preparing for full time Christian vocations: 54 of these are training for the ministry and 13 for Christian education work.
The students come from 20 states and three foreign countries and for the first time a negro undergraduate student is enrolled. He is Joel Rice of Muskogee, Oklahoma who transferred as a junior from Bacone College, a junior college in Muskogee. He is a Cumberland Presbyterian ministerial student and is attending on a scholarship from Greer Presbytery.
