The Cumberland Presbyterian Church uses a program of endorsement as its means to deploy missionaries. An endorsed CP missionary has the seal of approval of the CP Church, having met our criteria to be a missionary. We endorse clergy and laypeople. Our endorsement allows the CP missionary to be presented to the CP Church as a qualified missionary, endorsed to serve and free to raise money and relate to CP congregations, presbyteries and the denomination. An endorsed missionary may work on a mission field developing CP churches and providing leadership to existing CP churches; they can work within CP institutions or work with non-denominational mission organizations. Endorsement is ongoing in that all participants mutually agree to fulfill certain expectations to the CP Church as CP missionaries. The endorsed missionary program allows us to unify all missionaries under one umbrella – an endorsed CP missionary is a CP missionary regardless with whom they work, their nationality or country of service. The Missions Ministry Team provides direct supervision of missionaries that are endorsed. In cases where the missionary works for a non-denominational partner mission organization, the missionary must be involved in a shared program between the nondenominational mission agency and the CP Missions Ministry Team.
