Ministry Council Summary of Actions (8/21/2021)

1. The Ministry Council met via Zoom on Saturday August 21, 2021. In attendance were elected members Carla Bellis, Rev. Kenny Butcher, Rev. Dr. Michael Clark, Rev. Juan David Correa, Amy Cresswell, Debbie Hayes, Rev. Phillip Layne, Rev. Derek Jacks, Lora Rodgers Kerner, Angelica Poveda, Melinda Reams, Ted Shirai, Rev. Tim Smith, and Rev. Mike Wilkinson. Also present were Director of Ministries Edith Old, and Advisory Members Rev. Duawn Mearns, Moderator of the 190^th General Assembly and Rev. Mike Sharpe, Stated Clerk of General Assembly.
2. In keeping with its bylaws, the Council elected officers Carla Bellis, President; Rev. Tim Smith, 1^st Vice President; Rev. Dr. Michael Clark, 2^nd Vice President; and Rev. Derek Jacks, Secretary.
3. In keeping with its practice of an annual review of the Ministry Council Covenant, Tim Smith encouraged members to be intentional in practicing the covenant and asked members to sign and return copy of the document to be placed on file in the Ministry Council office.
4. Financial reports were reviewed and approved by the Ministry Council.
5. The Council voted to leave vacant the administrative position of Communications Ministry Team Leader until such time that the Council’s strategic planning reveals that filling the position is either necessary or instead, that the Church may be better served by applying the funds for that position to more direct communication, IT, and web-design/management services.
6. The Council approved a revised job description for the Director of Ministry with Women. The job will be posted, and an Interview Panel formed in keeping with MC policy
7. Discussion produced a list of eight visioning questions to reflect upon the goals and work of the Ministry Council. The Council’s Visioning work group will meet within the next 30 days to consider the questions and report back to the Council.
8. Mike Sharpe directed Council members to the Summary of Actions related to the recent General Assembly (https://www.cumberland.org/gao/Summary/Summary_of_Actions_2021.pdf).
9. The Council appointed Kenny Butcher as the Ministry Council Board Representative to the General Assembly Strategic Planning Committee that will develop a strategic plan that includes a mission statement, vision statement, guiding principles, and goals for the Cumberland Presbyterian Church to be presented to the 192^nd General Assembly (in 2023).
10. The next Ministry Council Corporation Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors will take place February 19-20, 2022.
