Although information is still sketchy, it appears at least one person connected to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church has died in the devastation surrounding the Middle Tennessee tornadoes which struck in the early morning hours of March 3, 2020.
The path of the tornado which struck close to downtown Nashville appears to have passed directly over the historic Russell Street former Cumberland Presbyterian Church in the Edgefield neighborhood and very close to the Donelson Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The Russell Street building is reported to be “safe and sound” and an elder has stated while there was no harm to the Donelson church building several members had damage to their homes.
The Reverend Christian Smith, pastor of the Cookeville, Tennessee, Cumberland Presbyterian Church reported on Facebook, “Cookeville received a great deal of damage last night. While the church building is fine, we have at least three families from the church whose houses were destroyed. We also have at least one member who is among the 16 confirmed deaths so far.”
Cloyd’s Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, reported their community had suffered a great deal of damage but, so far, none of the church members seemed to have damage to their homes.
Additional information will be posted as it is received.
