Megan Nichols of Fairfield, Illinois, was not a Cumberland Presbyterian but she numbered Cumberland Presbyterians among her friends and relations. She was buried during a private ceremony at Union North Cumberland Presbyterian Church (North Central Presbytery) on February 2, 2023. Megan, then fifteen, disappeared July 13, 2014, and was originally classified as a runaway until her remains were discovered in a shallow grave in December 2017. Brodey Ian Murbarger, whom Megan had dated, was charged in 2020 with her murder. Murbarger was convicted in October 2022 and sentenced January 27, 2023.
