Ministry Council Summary of Actions

1. The Ministry Council Corporation Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors was held Saturday and Sunday, February 21-22, at the Denomination Center in Cordova, TN. In attendance were Rev. Donny Acton, Carla Bellis, Rev. Kenny Butcher, Juan David Correa, Debbie Hayes, Rev. Samantha Hassell, Rev. Phillip Layne, Melinda Reams, Ted Shirai, Rev. Tim Smith, Charelle Webb, and Rev. Mike Wilkinson. They were joined in attendance by Advisory Members Shelia O’Mara, Moderator of General Assembly and Rev. Mike Sharpe, Stated Clerk of General Assembly. Staff present were Director of Ministries Edith Busbee Old; CMT Leader Rev. Steven Shelton; MMT Leader Rev. Dr. Milton Ortiz; PDMT Leader Rev. Dr. Pam Phillips-Burk, and DMT Leader Rev. Elinor Brown.
2. Saturday morning worship was led by Donny Acton with the message given by Moderator Shelia O’Mara
3. Financial reports were reviewed by the Ministry Council.
4. Milton Ortiz shared an update on the denominational Day of Prayer and Fasting, February 26, 2020.
5. Ministry Team Leaders shared a comprehensive presentation of their respective ministries reflecting new opportunities and goals for 2020 and beyond.
6. Stated Clerk Rev. Mike Sharpe shared plans for the upcoming General Assembly in Louisville, Kentucky and provided an update on Unification.
7. Elinor Brown shared Encounter survey results and enhancements planned in order to appeal to a wider audience. A report on the Encounter survey will be contained within the MC Report to General Assembly.
8. The Council will recommend that the 190^th General Assembly encourage churches and presbyteries to include in worship on Worldwide Communion Sunday, October 4, 2020, the presented Affirmation of Faith and Commitment to Witness.
9. The proposed Ministry Council comprehensive 2021 budget was presented and approved.
10. Edith Old presented the Director of Ministries Report which was approved. The Ministry Council remains grateful to Edith for her dedication.
11. Donny Acton was elected MC representative to the Our United Outreach Committee.
12. Mike Wilkinson was elected Ministry Council representative to the 190^th General Assembly; Charelle Webb will serve as alternate.
13. Sunday morning worship was led by Charelle Webb and Carla Bellis with the message given by Samantha Hassell.
14. Milton Ortiz provided an overview of the function and policies of the Missionary Crisis Team.
15. The Ministry Council will recommend that General Assembly encourage all presbyteries establish a crisis/emergency response team.
16. The Ministry Council Corporation Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors will take place February 20-21, 2021.
17. Adjourned to meet with Ministry Teams, Friday and Saturday, August 21-22, 2020, at Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bartlett, TN.
