Laura Díaz, a Cumberland Presbyterian in Colombia, South America, and student at Universidad de Manizales has won the prestigious Simon Bolivar Award for Journalism. With coauthor Laura Aguilar, Díaz was honored for a piece in Revista Página which details the life journey of a woman devoted to the theater. Translated from Spanish, the honorarium states, “The textual material, the images, and annotations are distributed in the pages of the publication in an artistic way. The result is a piece that communicates the difficulties of an existence full of demands which, however, is undertaken with the joy of a personal conviction of the power of inhabiting the world of life in and from the theater. Monologue for a rebellious, impetuous and indomitable actress is a piece that should be able to be seen in Colombia, a privilege that has been enjoyed by the public in Manizales, a pioneering city of theater festivals and theatrical activity in Colombia.”
Laura Díaz is the niece of the Reverend Esperanza Díaz, Cumberland Presbyterian missionary to Guatemala.
