Kathryn Gilbert Craig, 67, of Bartlett, Tennessee, died June 10, 2023, from a septic infection. Kathryn was a vitally involved member and elder of Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Cornerstone Presbytery) in Bartlett, Tennessee.
Born December 1, 1955, to the Reverend James Cayce Gilbert and Freda Mitchell Gilbert, Kathryn was a proud Texan. Her father, Rev. Gilbert, was the long time director of the Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home in Denton, Texas, as well as having served several Cumberland Presbyterian churches. Kathryn and her sisters, Elizabeth Horsley, Suzanne Dougherty, and Rosalie Nelson, sometimes known collectively as “the Gilbert girls,” were immersed in Cumberland Presbyterianism from a young age.
Kathryn went to Denton High School and graduated in 1974. She then studied administrative management at the University of North Texas (1978). Kathryn made a career with Delta Air Lines from which she retired after 30 years before accepting a position with the Board of Stewardship, Foundation, and Benefits (BOS) for fifteen years as Administrative Assistant at the Cumberland Presbyterian Center in Memphis.
Kathryn was also well known to the Cumberland Presbyterian Denomination having served as Moderator of Texas Synod, and as a Trustee of both Memphis Theological Seminary and West Tennessee Presbytery, each for nine years. Her husband, Dr. Thomas J. Craig, Jr., has served the denomination in many ways including as Engrossing Clerk.
Kathryn was a survivor, for eleven years, of Pancreatic cancer and was a passionate supporter of the Kosten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
