June West is stepping down as Memphis (Tennessee) Heritage’s leader after a 17-year struggle to keep backhoes away from the city’s historic and ornate buildings.

Her preservation victories have included persuading Chick-Fil-A to preserve and incorporate the front, ornate wall of the Cumberland Presbyterian Denominational Center building into the chain’s Midtown restaurant on Union. That resolution happened 10 years ago.
