Hazel Lee Parish Gardner, 97, formerly of Sharon, Tennessee, died December 5, 2022. Hazel was born December 12, 1924 in Sharon to Robert Major Parish and Bessie Lee Jackson Parish. She married Albert Olion Gardner December 27, 1941. She was a long-time member of Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Hopewell Presbytery) in Sidonia, Tennessee, but had attended Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Cornerstone Presbytery) in Bartlett, Tennessee, since 1993. Hazel served many times as hostess for the annual bookstore Christmas open house held by the Cumberland Presbyterian Resource Center at the Denominational Center in Memphis, Tennessee. She was sister-in-law to the late Reverend Dr. John Edward Gardner, Professor of Homiletics and Christian Education at the Cumberland Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Memphis Theological Seminary. Her son, Ronald D. Gardner served as chair of the denominational Our United Outreach committee. Son Albert E. Gardner created illustrations for the Bible Discovery Sunday school curriculum published by the Cumberland Presbyterian Board of Christian Education. Daughter-in-law the late Dorothy “Dot” Gardner worked many years for the Cumberland Presbyterian Resource Center. Granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Ellis is manager of finance and administration for the Missions Ministry Team of the Ministry Council of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
