On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, the historic First Presbyterian Church in Prosper, Texas, was severely damaged in a fire which, according to investigators, began as an electrical fire in the building’s air conditioning system. Although no one was injured, but the fate of the building is as of yet unknown.
The church was organized as the McAdew [sic.] Cumberland Presbyterian Church on July 7, 1878. In 1882, the first church building was constructed in the Rock Hill Community. It was moved in 1896 and became Rock Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church. It was moved to Prosper in 1902 and has been expanded since then. In 1906, the Prosper church went into the partial union with the Presbyterian Church (USA).
