Focus
Relax and clear your head. Listen for the voice of God. What is God saying to you today?
Read
Matthew 23:37-39 (NRSV)
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you, desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
Reflect
We live in a culture that believes you have to see the good in everything and we are averse to introspection that leads to weeping. DON’T SUCCUMB TO THIS! It is good for us for our hearts to be broken. Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.
Holy discontentment has been the motivation for all the prophets. They were angry and heartbroken about the brokenness of the world, and it caused them to submit their life to God and their community to seek its healing.
Ignoring brokenness doesn’t lead to wholeness. Putting a happy face on a bad situation doesn’t cause change. Take time today to think of the brokenness in your life, in your community, or even in your church and let that become your motivation to bring the transformative power of Jesus Christ into those places–Let the light shine in darkness!
Pray
Help me, O God, to see the brokenness, help me to mourn for the loss of freedom and joy that is so often found in the world around us. Let me be a light in the darkness.
Go with God!
