Psalm 138 (NRSV)

Of David.

I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
I bow down toward your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;
for you have exalted your name and your word
above everything.
On the day I called, you answered me,
you increased my strength of soul.

All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD,
for they have heard the words of your mouth.
They shall sing of the ways of the LORD,
for great is the glory of the LORD.
For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly;
but the haughty he perceives from far away.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;
you stretch out your hand,
and your right hand delivers me.
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Reflect

A little boy was born a preemie, hanging onto life. The doctors knew he needed pure oxygen, but it would cost him his eyes. With that possibility facing the family, they gave the doctors the go ahead. His mother didn’t think that she could care for him, so her parents raised him, and he grew up in a loving Christian home. Growing up believing and loving the Lord in spite of his disability. Instead of being embittered, he grew up thankful. God had given him a gift beyond measure. He had perfect pitch. He earned a living tuning pianos. On hearing a song once, he could play it perfectly. He traveled giving his testimony and performing his beautiful music, an inspiration to all who heard him. We do no have to be complete in order to serve and love the Lord. He will fulfill His purpose in us in spite of our disabilities and weaknesses.

Pray

Oh Lord, do your perfect work in me so that I will be an inspiration to others, lifting my voice up to you in praise for your goodness and mercy. Fulfill your purpose in my life so that I may serve you completely.
