Psalm 119:89-96 (NRSV)
The Lord exists forever;
your word is firmly fixed in heaven.
Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
you have established the earth, and it stands fast.
By your appointment they stand today,
for all things are your servants.
If your law had not been my delight,
I would have perished in my misery.
I will never forget your precepts,
for by them you have given me life.
I am yours; save me,
for I have sought your precepts.
The wicked lie in wait to destroy me,
but I consider your decrees.
I have seen a limit to all perfection,
but your commandment is exceedingly broad.
Reflect
I am a youth leader for a CP church in Nashville Presbytery, and because of this, Crystal Springs Camp is basically my home for three weeks out of every year. I get to sleep on an uncomfortable bunk bed, eat food that reminds me of middle school, and be eaten alive by insects, but it is all worth it because some of my favorite memories are from summer camps. Crystal Springs Camp is the first place that I realized how incredible God is. This text reminds me of the thoughts that I first had at camp when I became amazed at the recklessness that is an eternal God that loves momentary humans.
It is hard to imagine God’s infinite nature and power, but this scripture captures it very well. While we strive to be perfect, there is a limit for us. Yet, there is no limit for God. It is at camp that I realized my limits, and at camp, I came to understand my need for our limitless God.
Pray
Dear God,
You are incredible. Thank you for caring for limited, broken people. Thank you for loving us, momentary humans. We love you too.
Amen
Go with God!
