Book ends are so practical. They hold books together. Between the bookends are works of literature. What can be held together by the book ends might range from entertainment to books of higher learning. There might be a few books. There might be many books on the shelf. Bookends must be heavy or strong enough to hold things together. This passages seems to have a couple of strong bookends. It begins and ends with giving thanks to the Lord for God is so good. God’s steadfast love endures forever. It is Palm Sunday. Easter is ever closer. Holy Week is upon us. We remember and celebrate Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem – and the joy it brought the people for the King of Kings to arrive. However, something is amiss. It is not quite the triumphal entry on a horse. Jesus rides in on a donkey, a symbol of peace. In the middle of our text from Psalm 118 we find the verse, This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. It is not easy to rejoice and be glad every day. There never seems to be an end to challenges in life. Sometimes even a celebration like the triumphal entry can be short lived. Things began to change quickly throughout Holy Week. We finally made it to Jerusalem with Jesus – only to face a very difficult week. Give Thanks to the Lord for he is good, his steadfast love endures forever.
Pray
We give thanks to You oh Lord our God, your steadfast love endures forever. We are encouraged to go through this Holy Week with your steadfast love from beginning to end. We need you to give us strength to make it through to Easter when we will celebrate the Resurrection! This is the day You have made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! In Jesus’ Name we Pray! Amen!
Go with God.
