A lot can happen in three days! I laughed with some friends once as we talked about the fact that one friend was three days older than the other. I said, “a lot can happen in three days.” It helped that we were clergy friends, and everyone caught the reference! This statement, however would not have been helpful to the Disciples as Jesus tells them what would happen in Jerusalem. It is not the news they wanted. It was not what they hoped would happen. They cannot even stand the thought of what would happen to their beloved rabbi who they came to know as the Messiah and friend! Did they even hear the part where he would rise again in three days? Easter is on the way. What will happen between now and then is painful at best. Our Lenten journey continues as we grow ever closer to the cross. We will reflect on being at the cross in a few days. Now, we prepare to enter Jerusalem with the Messiah. Things will change drastically from day to day. This time next week, the Disciples will be in a very different place. But a lot can happen in three days. Just you wait and see!
Pray
Amazing and Most Wonderful God,
You ask us to wait for you. We are waiting again. We are hoping again. We come to you again for blessing, strength, comfort, and peace as we prepare to go with you to Jerusalem. We already know that challenges await us in Holy Week. It did not feel like Holy Week to the Disciples. We pray that you will help us to feel your presence so that we will be open to your Spirit today and every day. Help us follow you through the doors and in the ministries you have laid out for us even if we do not understand how things work together for our good! You have gifted us to serve, help us to be present and helpful to others who find themselves in a struggle. In Jesus’ Holy Name we pray!
Go with God.
