If you were with us yesterday, we were looking at John’s bitterness at the people not repenting in Revelation. Today we are continuing that theme in Ezekiel. In today’s reading we are made aware that God does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked that God wants them redeemed to turn away from darkness. There is a lot of times when we as Christians quickly dismiss people from the salvation of God. Sometimes we compare ourselves with others and we often think “I am not that bad. I am not a thief. I have not murdered anyone.” However, that is not the standard we are measured by as God says here in verse 13 NRS Ezekiel 33:13 “Though I say to the righteous that they shall surely live, yet if they trust in their righteousness and commit iniquity, none of their righteous deeds shall be remembered; but in the iniquity that they have committed they shall die.” (Eze 33:13 NRS) we see that even the righteous are not without sin and in need of a Savior. We should not hold ourselves too highly because compared to a Holy God we are out and out filthy. Paul gets it and says that his righteousness is nothing, but in Christ he is made righteous NRS Philippians 3:8 “More than that, I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but one that comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God based on faith”.
Pray
God, help us to seek the salvation of the lost and remember that we were once lost too.
Go with God.
