Forgiveness and mercy instead of judgment.

The Pharisees were interested in destroying Jesus. If Jesus refused to confirm the death penalty, he would be accused of defying God’s law. If he confirmed the charge of the Pharisees, he would lose his witness of compassion, and be in trouble with the Romans. The Sanhedrin could not execute a death penalty.
Two scriptures follow the line of teaching for this event. Matthew 7:1-3 says to judge not; and Luke 6:37-41 describes the beam and plank in the eye of the accuser. The scripture does say that we can judge the tree by the fruit it bears. We are not to be judgmental condemning people because of the fruit of their sin. By being judgmental, we take the place of God, who will judge our actions. He rewards us if we are merciful and judges us if we are unmerciful. We are disciples of Christ and should follow his teachings of mercy and grace; or be like the Pharisees being hostile and condemn those whom we see as inferior to our alleged piety.
Pray
Holy Father, please forgive me when I am judgmental to others, and not being the example of Christ showing love, mercy, and forgiveness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Go with God.
