As you quiet yourself for this brief time, be willing to be open to God in whatever way that may take place.

Warnings have been around since the beginning of recorded history. From the fires at the top of the great wall of China to the tornado sirens in western Oklahoma. These warnings all come in a slightly different way but they all mean the same thing: danger is coming.
The warning Jonah took to the city of Nineveh was no different. He had to go proclaim a warning from God that destruction was coming. Just like the warnings mentioned above were used to give people time to prepare for oncoming destruction, this warning gave people a chance to prepare for the destruction coming from God. The difference in preparing for a tornado and preparing for the Lord is a little different, though. When the city heard that God was displeased and was fixing to take action against them, they immediately started to repent, wear sack clothes, and fast. They knew what it meant to heed the warning they received and this reminds me of the warning Christ gives in the gospel of Matthew. He calls us to “repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
As we go today, let’s remember to heed the warning of Christ, much like the city of Nineveh, and repent.
Pray
Father we come to you today in praise and worship and ask Father that you would forgive us of our sins. Whatever we hold in our hearts that goes against you, Father, please forgive us for and give us the strength and endurance to leave our sin alone and instead replace it with you. Thank you for loving us and sending Christ to die for us. We pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Go with God.
