What a promise we see in Paul’s recap of the Old Testament story of Elijah. God had reserved 7,000 people for Himself. In other words, God had saved these people because of their faith in Him, which is a perfect example of what Christ came to this earth to do. He came into the sinful and broken world so that He could reserve or save all those that believe in Him. The best part of this story is that it doesn’t stop at 7,000 people this time. It carries to all those that accept Christ as their Lord and Savior.
In Paul fashion, he also reminds the church in Rome that it is not their works that bring them salvation. He is adamant about the “remanent chosen by grace”, with extra emphasis on the “grace” part. There is nothing the church in Rome, or anyone today for that matter, can do to obtain salvation by themselves aside from accepting Christ as their savior. As we go forward today as believers, let’s remember that it is not our works that make us part of the remanent chosen by grace, but it is the blood of Christ alone.
Pray
Father, I come to You now in awe and wonder at the works of Your hands. Thank you for loving me enough to bring me salvation through Your Son, Christ Jesus. I pray you to help me remember that there is nothing I could ever do to deserve it, and yet you still reserve me today. I love You, Father, I praise You, Father, and I thank You, Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Go with God.
