Reflect
After fleeing from Egypt, Moses was not a fan of going back. He did not want to face the Egyptians or his own people for that matter. This story that is being retold here in the book of Acts often reminds me of the third Jurassic Park movie. In the beginning, Dr. Grant is giving a speech and when asked if he would go back to the island to study the dinosaurs, he gave this quote, “No force on earth or heaven could get me on that island.” I have to imagine that Moses felt this same way. He did not think there was a single force that could get him back to Egypt and yet here God was. Often times I have a similar thought in my life, “God, I could never do that. You can’t ask me to do that!” I get stubborn but then I remember why Stephen was telling this story. He was facing death at the hands of the Sanhedrin and spoke this story boldly. The only force that affected Stephen was the Holy Spirit. When God said “move”, Stephen moved. In our lives today, we have to remember that being stubborn misses out on the plan God has for us, no matter what that plan looks like.
Pray
Father, we come to you not knowing the plan you have for us Father but with open hearts willing to go where you call us. Help us to not give in to our selfish thoughts and ideas and give us the strength and endurance to follow the plans you have placed before us. We love you and thank you, Father, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Go with God.
