Have you ever told a story about something that interested you? How about something you accomplished? When you told the story, did you keep the details exactly how they happened, or did you embellish the story a little?
What comes to mind when thinking of this is the little boy who caught the fish. He went fishing with his dad and when he got home, his mom asked if he had caught anything. The little boy says, “Yes! It was this big,” and holds his arms out as wide as they will go when the actual fish was only a few inches long.
It is easy to embellish a story to get someone to believe it or to be impressed by it. It is even easier to make up a story that grabs the attention of the listener. The beauty of the Bible is that there is no need to make up or exaggerate. The Bible is full of events that don’t seem possible and can grab the listeners’ attention. The life of Christ is a perfect example of this. It goes from birth to death, back to life, accenting into heaven, and ultimately will end with Christ returning again. There is no need to craft cleverly devised stories, tell the Gospel or better yet, live the message of the Gospel and let the true story of Christ shine in all that you do.
Pray
Father, we come to you now as listeners and learners of your story and we pray Father that we would not embellish our story or exaggerate the scriptures but would instead live a life that represents Your word and shines the truth of Christ in all that we do. We love you, we praise you, and we thank you, Father, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Go with God.
