This little verse. So easy to remember, so easy to read, so easy to say…but seems so hard to do. In Galatians, Paul contrasts living by the Spirit and living by the flesh. Living by the Spirit sounds excellent; it is my greatest desire. Peace, love, joy, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I feel better just reading this list and I think to myself. I am going to do that. I am going to live by the Spirit.
Then, I have to get out of bed. I have to drive to work. I have to deal with coworkers. I have to think about my budget. There is so much in my life in which the flesh cries out to be heard. I guess the question is, how can I live by the Spirit? I think it is through prayer, love, and intentionality. Every morning we have to start with earnest desire to please God. Paul also gives us a clue in the previous verses of this passage. Live with love. Connect with the deep love of God in your heart and share it.
Pray
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us the Holy Spirit. Let us be in tune with the Spirit, be overwhelmed by the Spirit, and live by the Spirit. Amen.
Go with God.
