I have a morning routine like most people to get ready for the day. I get up and take the dogs outside. I get some coffee. Read a devotional or two and a prayer. Then, after I have prayed, skim the news across the internet. Take a shower. Then get dressed. Very normal routine. As I am getting dressed, I sometimes think of verses like the one above. There are plenty of passages when Paul speaks of putting on Christ or putting on the armor of God, or clothing yourself with righteousness.
It seems silly that we think of righteousness or Jesus in the same way, we think of a coat and tie, but upon deeper reflection, it seems that it is right. Spirituality takes some intention. There have been mornings where I have been rushed, and I forget something (like a belt), and the rest of my day seems a little off. I know for absolute certainty there have been mornings that I have been rushed, and I forget to “clothe” myself with Christ because my drive to work is stressful, and I say things about people and their driving skills that I otherwise would not say.
Each morning we do need to be intentional to be aware of the presence of God and make a mental note of putting on Christ.
Pray
Lord, help me to be aware of your presence and invite you into my life each day. In Jesus name, Amen.
Go with God.
