As I think about the coming year and all that we can accomplish in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church I am reminded that the greatest resource I can provide for the church is…praying for the Church. So today, I am praying for you. I am praying for the pastor who is preparing the sermon. I am praying for the elder who is helping shepherd the flock. I am praying for the Christian educators that will help form the hearts and minds of thousands of people who are seeking to go deeper in their relationship with Jesus. I am praying for all the lay people in the church who volunteer countless hours in the hopes that they can contribute to the healing of communities in the name of Jesus Christ.

As Cumberland Presbyterians, we sometimes get discouraged by the lack of resources we see before us, or we become overwhelmed with the task ahead of us. Yet, our resources are abundant when we are connected with the mission of God. As Paul writes, “Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine.” I am going big this year and trusting that if God has called me to do it, God will also provide the resources and energy to get it done.

I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Amen.
