Psalm 103:1-5, 15-18
Thanksgiving for God’s Goodness
Of David.
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name.
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and do not forget all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the Pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5 who satisfies you with good as long as you live
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
15 As for mortals, their days are like grass;
they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more.
17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children’s children,
18 to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.
Reflect
My heart is full as I reflect on this past Christmas. Not everything was perfect, but it was good. God has blessed me. One incident, in particular, reminded me of God’s goodness. Most of you experienced pretty cold weather this weekend. We did here in Paducah, KY. My kid’s car battery could not handle it, and his car would not start. He had to work on Christmas, so he called me and asked for a ride.
When I picked him up, he said, “I guess there are a thousand other things you would rather be doing than having to take your son to work on Christmas day.” But he is young. He forgets verses 15. There are thousands of families (mine included) that would deeply rejoice to take their loved one to work on Christmas day, but they can’t because their loved one is no longer here to celebrate with them.
Christmas is a time of joy, but for many, also a time of remembrance of those that have gone on to their heavenly rewards. So, this is my reflection for today; Let’s celebrate the goodness of God while we are in the land of the living. There may be many menial tasks we have to attend to, but even in those tasks, when we stop and think about it, there is still much goodness through which God blesses our souls.
Pray
Glorious God, I praise you for your blessings in my life. I do not deserve them, I am always confounded by the multitude and depth of them, but I am thankful. Bless us, your children, today. We give you great thanks for Jesus Christ. Amen.
Go with God.
