Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.

Isaiah 61:1-2
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
61 The spirit of the Lord God is upon me
because the Lord has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed,
to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives
and release to the prisoners,

and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,

Welcome to Advent!
It seems our world is filled with bad news. When you turn on the TV, it seems bad news is always on. When you scroll through Facebook or Twitter, it always seems like bad news and drama. Money is tight and getting tighter. We fear that it might get worse. We can hope things will get better.
The world offers hope through politicians and political platforms, stock markets, and get-rich-quick schemes. We are inundated with promises that they will get us on the right track. Vote for a particular person or advocate for some political platform, and everything will be solved. Put your money in the next hot stock, and soon you will have an abundance. We know this isn’t true.
Hope is only as good as the thing you hope in. Jesus offers hope, and we know that the hope he offers is both good and effective for us. We know we can hope in Jesus Christ because he is raised from the dead. Paul says it this way in 2 Corinthians 1:21, “20 For in him every one of God’s promises is a “Yes.” For this reason it is through him that we say the “Amen,” to the glory of God.
Pray
Lord, Help us to joyfully wait for Christmas. Help us to joyfully and purposefully wait for your second advent. Help us to be light! Amen
Amen.
Go with God!
