137 You are righteous, O Lord,
and your judgments are right.
138 You have appointed your decrees in righteousness
and in all faithfulness.
139 My zeal consumes me
because my foes forget your words.
140 Your promise is well tried,
and your servant loves it.
141 I am small and despised,
yet I do not forget your precepts.
142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
and your law is the truth.
143 Trouble and anguish have come upon me,
but your commandments are my delight.
144 Your decrees are righteous forever;
give me understanding that I may live.

I TRUST
I heard a minister after the tragic death of a teenager say, “I don’t always understand God, but I trust God.”
Life happens to all of us. We plan and prepare, and we hope and pray that our plan will work. Sometimes it all happens exactly how we want it too and sometimes things go wrong. The Psalmist points out in this passage that God is still there. God has it all figured out. Yet we find ourselves at times pouring our hearts out to God about our problems. We lose sight of the fact that no matter how big a problem is, our God is bigger. The same God that looked out into nothingness and spoke creation into existence, speaks into our nothingness and gives us purpose. Sometimes it’s a perfect road map with every turn and twist so apparent. That’s when the journey is easy. It’s when we are in those situations where we have to look into uncertainty and step out in faith and trust God that we grow and are drawn closer to God’s love.
An old song says, “Though our minds be filled with questions, in our hearts we’ll understand when the river meets the sea.” So we embrace our faith. A faith that at times is shaken, but we hold tight to it, because God has never failed us. It’s that faith that will sustain us and comfort us. Although we might not see where God is leading us, we know he built the road and has already worked things out for us. We simply have to be willing to, “Let go and let God.” God has never let us down and even though I have had times when I didn’t understand God, I still trust God, because God has always been faithful and true. God has the map and knows where I’m going even when I don’t.
Pray
Dear God, as the father of the demon-possessed son prays, so do we, “I believe, Help my unbelief.” Encourage us everyday to have a deeper faith and trust in You. Amen
