Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.

97 Oh, how I love your law!
It is my meditation all day long.
98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies,
for it is always with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers,
for your decrees are my meditation.
100 I understand more than the aged,
for I keep your precepts.
101 I hold back my feet from every evil way,
in order to keep your word.
102 I do not turn away from your ordinances,
for you have taught me.
103 How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through your precepts I get understanding;
therefore I hate every false way.
Reflect
I was in elementary school when the WWJD bracelets gained popularity. I remember wearing one in 4th grade when a friend asked me what it meant. I simply spouted off the acronym, “What would Jesus do?” Being a 9-year old, I didn’t really know what else to say. I suppose I didn’t quite know the purpose of the bracelet then; I just wore it because I thought it was a cool thing to do. But I understand the meaning now. It was meant to serve as a reminder, to keep my focus on Jesus as I walk into different situations and encounter different people. I find it similar to what the Psalmist has written, meditating on God’s laws and God’s word all day long.
Frankly, thinking about biblical laws doesn’t exactly conjure up joy and excitement all the time. Too often, laws in the Bible are only sought after and quoted to debate or judge and condemn others. However, Jesus gives us two laws that are of utmost importance. They both revolve around love. Jesus suggests these laws of love are in fact God’s laws, so as followers of Jesus, perhaps these should be the laws we meditate on most. Indeed, reflecting on these laws and acting out of love will surely keep us in accordance with God’s purposes and desires. It turns out, maybe keeping the question, “What would Jesus do?” in front of us isn’t a such a bad idea.
Pray
Loving God, you desire for us to reflect your love to others, and your son, Jesus, indeed shows us what that looks like. In all of our study of your laws, may the command to love others shine through and take priority in our lives. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Go with God!
