Jesus Heals Two Blind Men
29 As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30 There were two blind men sitting by the roadside. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they shouted, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” 31 The crowd sternly ordered them to be quiet, but they shouted even more loudly, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!” 32 Jesus stood still and called them, saying, “What do you want me to do for you?” 33 They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.” 34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they regained their sight and followed him.
Reflect
How desperate have you been for Jesus to meet your need? In today’s scripture, there were two blind men sitting along the roadside who were desperate to be healed! They knew that Jesus could heal them, and they were not about to let anything, or anyone stop them from crying out to Him!
The two blind men cried out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” Matthew 20:30b. When the crowd rebuked them, they just ignored them and got louder! Hmmm, how many times do we allow people or our own insecurities to get in the way of the healing we need from Jesus?
I love today’s story, because these two men simply did not care what others thought! They knew that Jesus was their answer, and they did not allow them to silence their cries! Many times, in church, we have allowed others including our own selves to silence our cries. We may think to ourselves, “What will they think of me if I go to the altar? What if they really knew what I am battling? What if they really knew that I am not the person that they think I am? What if they make fun of me? What if they judge me?”
Jesus is moved with compassion, and he heals their eyes! Jesus did not let others dictate his actions nor did he silence the cries of these two blind men! He asked them, “What do you want me to do for you?” Matthew 20:32b. Don’t you think that Jesus will do the very same for you in your desperate situation?
Let me tell you this, if you are in need, don’t you know that Jesus is asking you the very same question, “What do you want me to do for you?” He is so ready and willing to help you and heal you! He is moved with compassion for you too! Please do not let your insecurities or someone else stop you from crying out to Jesus! He is our answer, our healer, and the lover of our souls!
Pray
Dear Compassionate God, Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus to be our healer and our sustainer! Your love for us Lord, is beyond what we can imagine, but every time we come to You with a need, You are always eager to help! Please forgive us when we allow people, things or ourselves get in the way of coming to You! We love You, Lord! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
