10 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. 2 He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. 3 Go on your way; I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. 4 Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. 5 Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’
Reflect
Peace.
It’s hard to find right now in our society of politics, propaganda, and post-pandemics. So I want to be certain that at least in my home— that sacred place where I spend time with family, rest, and eat…that it has peace.
But when parenting a fiery child, seeing dirty dishes in the sink, helping a stressed spouse, and cleaning up after an unruly dog— peace can seem distant when I walk in the door. Can you relate?
So how are we to do it?
When Jesus spoke Luke 10:5 to the disciples, he was giving them tips on how to minister to others. Tips on how to ease the anxiety of a household and show them the Father instead. He taught them that entering a household and immediately praying for peace over it would set a tone for God’s blessings in the hearts of those living there.
If I want peace in my house, it’s going to have to start with me, no matter how many dirty dishes are in the sink. This week I’m going to pray this verse over my home when I step into the door. Before I take off my coat— I’ll speak His Words. With each prayer of peace in my doorway, my heart begins to change, as I set a tone of calmness in all I do around the house. From parenting to cleaning— Luke 10:5 reminds us to strive for peace.
Pray
Lord, we thank You for Your peace. Help us bring that peace into our homes. Amen.
Go with God!
