This week we are having a Young Adult Ministry Retreat on the Spiritual Disciplines. One of the disciplines we are studying is the discipline of simplicity. Simplicity is often misunderstood as choosing to have less or having less to do. This isn’t the case. Simplicity is having a single-minded focus on God. 

In our parable today we read about a rich fool. The man’s wealth was not the issue. He wasn’t a fool because he was rich. He was a fool because he was not focused on God. John Wesley had a saying, ” Earn all you can, Save all you can, and Give all you can.” Simplicity might mean to be poor for the purpose of the Gospel, But it could also mean being a savvy business person and making lots of money, so that you can use your great wealth for the advancement of the Gospel. 

We will think more about simplicity this week, but for today. Think about simplicity as single-mindedness. A single-mindedness toward God and the Gospel.
