While doing my daily errands driving in my car a song came on that brought back memories. I loved this song when I was young. You probably like it too, or at least know it. It is “Imagine” written and performed by John Lennon. It asks us to imagine a world, with no God, heaven, or hell. It asks us to imagine no need for greed or hunger, just a brotherhood of man…It’s easy if you try.

I used to think that John Lennon was on to something with his, “let’s all get along” idea.  But I am too old for that now. I have experienced enough in this world that even the best of people have their own interests at heart. I have lived long enough to know by experience and through Bible study that human beings, every one of them, are fallen. As Paul says there is no one righteous, no not one. 

It’s nice to imagine everyone being good enough to share their possessions. And, who knows, you might be a good enough person, but since you are reading a daily devotion, chances are you are a Christian, whose heart has been transformed by the grace of God. 

That is the point of this passage. Only through the Gospel and a relationship with Jesus Christ can we have a heart that can imagine and then carry out the good things John Lennon writes about.
