All Lands Summoned to Praise God
A Psalm of thanksgiving.
1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Serve the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing.
3 Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him; bless his name.
5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever
and his faithfulness to all generations.
Reflect
I grew up in the Holly Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church and began singing in the choir when I was a teenager. Before the worship service started people would gather and visit with one another. However, the moment, the church organist hit that first note everything became quiet and reverent. As the prelude was being played the choir would enter and you could feel the presence of God. When I read the opening words of Psalm 100, I can visualize God’s people being called to worship and them entering into His presence with praise and thanksgiving.
Once our choir was in the choir loft, they would sing a choral call to worship directing God’s people to remember the words of the Psalmist. “Know that the Lord is God. It is He that made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of his pasture.”
I am so grateful for those years of worship because they have continually reminded me “that the Lord is good, and that God’s steadfast love endures forever, and God is faithful to all generations.”
Praise God that worship is not about me but about the Creator and Sustainer of all life. Praise be to God!
Pray
God help us each day to begin by acknowledging You as the Creator and Sustainer of all life. May Your goodness, love, and faithfulness keep us centered as we live our faith response in the world, for we ask all these things in the strong and mighty name of God. Amen
Go with God!
