Psalm 122
Song of Praise and Prayer for Jerusalem
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
1 I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
2 Our feet are standing
within your gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem—built as a city
that is bound firmly together.
4 To it the tribes go up,
the tribes of the Lord,
as was decreed for Israel,
to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
5 For there the thrones for judgment were set up,
the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
7 Peace be within your walls,
and security within your towers.”
8 For the sake of my relatives and friends
I will say, “Peace be within you.”
9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will seek your good.

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem
In this Psalm, God commands the people to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. There will perhaps be some who are all about Palestine. There will perhaps be some who believe we completely replace Israel. However, my heart yearns much like Paul’s for the Jewish people. I love the Jewish people. I have found myself on several occasions being able to participate in their Shabbat (Sabbath) worship. I have made friends over the years who are Jewish. They are like how do you know so much about the Hebrew Scriptures and I often laugh and tell them it is a major part of my Scriptures as well.
When I go to temple, I am so excited on the one hand because it feels like connecting back to the faith of my Lord, Jesus Christ and His apostles. I love the Hebraic prayers. I love the reverence for the דָּבָר dbar (the Word) when the scrolls are brought out and they touch the hem of their garments and prayer shawls to the scrolls, the Word. Does this sound similar to a story in the New Testament? However, my heart sinks because they do not have the fullness of what we have in Christ. We have the Word made flesh and He can dwell in our lives. He can bring wholeness and forgiveness of sins. We should pray for Israel and pray for the people of God to know the Messiah Jesus Christ our Lord.
Pray
Heavenly Father, we thank you for Israel who You chose as a lineage to bring forth the Messiah. Lord, we pray for peace in the special piece of land You chose for Your people. We pray for the people Israel that there will be peace in Jerusalem and we pray that all Your children come to know You in the name of Christ we pray.
Go with God!
