Here we are in Luke and he gives us more accounts of Jesus’ encounters with the disciples.  We most frequently read John’s account on this because we see Thomas say he won’t believe it unless he sees the nail holes in Jesus’ hands and feet.  Here we get a shortened account of that.  We see Jesus appear in a closed room.  So we have some especially modern critical scholars who propose at best that they had an encounter with a Spirit or a Ghost and at worst that they were having a massive delusion. People then and people now see those they have lost and it is not a unique phenomenon. 

However, it is unique for them because He asks them to touch Him and actually eats a meal with them.  Look at verses 41-43.   The point is Jesus is bodily risen from the grave.  We can trust in that.  A great scholar N.T. Wright wrote a significant scholarly work called The Resurrection of the Son of God or his layman’s book on the topic Surprised by Hope. My desire is that you know the scriptures are trustworthy and that Jesus’ Resurrection is sure which means our resurrection is sure which gives us hope, hope beyond compare. If Jesus is raised that means we will be raised and death is not final and our hope is sure in the LORD.
