6 When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is now before the Lord.” 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. He said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” 9 Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” 10 Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, and Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen any of these.” 11 Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your sons here?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, but he is keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.” 12 He sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and had beautiful eyes, and was handsome. The Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; for this is the one.” 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the presence of his brothers; and the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. Samuel then set out and went to Ramah.

“Never judge a book by its cover.” I’m sure you have either said or heard that phrase in your life. One of the things I have noticed about Netflix is that they will change the cover art on movies from time to time. Movies that I once passed over, then catch my eye when the art looks more interesting so I choose to start watching it…it was something I should have passed over. Stop the movie. Find another.
Many times, I end up seeing some old black and white movie that someone has told me was really good, but I have never watched because…I mean, it’s black and white…and it’s so old. I then watch the movie and enjoy it because of the story presented in the movie.
Never judge a movie by the Netflix art…
Have you or someone you know ever been counted out because of your age, size, or their preconceived notions about you? Have you ever done so?
Pray
Repeatedly, Lord, you have shown us that it is not the expected choice that you choose to use but the one that you see the most potential in. We use charm, beauty and success as our measuring stick for leaders. And we are disappointed again and again. You look at a person’s heart. You measure their faith, their trust in you. With you at their side, they do great things for your kingdom on earth. Open our eyes to truly see a person’s worth. Push us to see the potential in those who society calls “losers.” For they (we) can and will do great things in your name. Amen.
Go with God!
