Focus
Let yourself become open to God and the knowledge that comes from the Word. Ask God for peace at this time.
Read
7 Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
8 They shall be like a tree planted by water,
sending out its roots by the stream.
It shall not fear when heat comes,
and its leaves shall stay green;
in the year of drought it is not anxious,
and it does not cease to bear fruit.
Reflect
One of the purposes of Lent is to focus less on the things we can see, taste, touch, and hear and more on God and the spiritual reality that surrounds us. It is no less real than the physical world but it is not as easily discerned. When we connect with God it is very similar to being like a tree that is planted by the life-giving source of water and good soil.
With the tree, it doesn’t matter if the heat turns up high, and the sky doesn’t give rain because its source of life is secure. We too can live in this world in such a way that no matter our external circumstances we can live an abundant life because we can be connected to Jesus Christ. He is our life-giving source of nutrition.
We are halfway through our Lenten journey. If you are one that chose to fast from something, it is probably getting a little easier now. Now you are beginning to realize that you can do without a little bit, and maybe you have been able to focus on spiritual things just a little bit more.
Pray
Lord God, help me to crave and desire more of you. Amen.
Go with God!
